With difficult and tricky questions the interviews test your mental aptitude and your capability to comprehend difficult problems and how promptly you are successful in answering difficult questions and understanding the pulse of the employer who is asking you the question. Following are some of the most difficult and tricky questions that are asked in an IAS interview and this should be your approach to understanding the questions and answering them most effectively so that the employer is happy and satisfied with your answer-
If someone throws a red stone into the blue sea what will happen?
Answer:- The stone will be wet and sink.
At the offset, such a question might seem irrelevant to your curriculum and you might wonder why the reference of color has been attached to the question. But upon careful analysis, you will realize that it has been given to understand your logical reasoning skills and your common sense under difficult situations. While answering this question, you should not lose your psychological frame of mind and therefore you should be extremely patient and steady while answering the question. Such questions are asked to see if you can maintain your state of mind and a balanced mental attitude because whenever personal questions are asked, you tend to forget the environment and give a fitting reply by either getting involved in a physical altercation or a verbal confrontation. Such situations can be extremely harmful during an interview session of this caliber. Thus maintain your composure and answer the question with poise and elegance.

Answer: The answer is available in the question asked. The Cat is named ‘What.’
You should not take much time to answer these questions because you are a future IAS officer so your presence of mind should respond quickly and efficiently. For questions like the ones asked above, you should thoroughly understand the objective and purpose behind asking the question. Once you get the feel of the question you should rationally analyze that when the answer for the question is not knowledge-based but observation-specific then you should understand that the answer for the question is hidden inside the answer as well. Thus it takes a rational mindset and approach to answer such an important question.
If 2 is the company and 3 is the crowd, next what will be the 4 and 5?
Answer: 4 and 5 there are always 9.
Your brilliance will get tested here. Instead of overthinking a lot, you should think without getting confused to answer these questions. Moreover, the answer to all questions is not complicated and difficult. You must switch between having an analytical mindset and then looking at every question from a logical point of view.
What looks like half an apple?
Answer: The second half APPLE.
If the candidate was feeling the pressure inside the interview hall, he/she cannot answer these types of tricky questions. Never put down your confidence level. Never show the interviewer that you are under pressure with beads of perspiration slowly appearing on your forehead. Understand the relevant essence of the question and answer accordingly. Realize the fact that the objective of the interviewer is to test your mental resilience.
A killer was condemned to death. Shown three rooms, and room number one is on fire, second rifles with the killer in the and third Tiger, who had not eaten for three years. What should he choose?
Answers:- Room number three, because the hungry lion would have died within three years.
Have a logical bent of mind and focus on the words spoken by the interviewer.
Thus if you can answer the aforementioned tricky questions successfully you would emerge with flying colors after your IAS interview session.
