Can I Prepare for IAS Exam with a full-time job?
- Fix a schedule and stick to it
On weekdays, you may get only very less time to prepare for IAS while working but during weekends you can put in some more hours to study. Having a routine helps you have deadlines and you should make it a habit to meet those deadlines. In this way, you can make weekly and monthly deadlines and finish the entire syllabus well in advance before the exams.
- Understand the syllabus well
You need to go through the syllabus properly and see what topics should be prioritized. You must have a firm grip on the syllabus and you should make notes also for revision, which will be really helpful before the exams.
- Prioritize your topics
It is very important to understand, what to study and what not to study as the syllabus is vast and diverse.You have to streamline your preparation and this is possible if you work out the previous years IAS questions papers.
- Selecting your optional subject
Selecting the optional is important as well as tricky. It is important to select an optional subject that you are familiar with so that you don’t have to start from scratch. You can save your time and efforts to prepare for other subjects. So it is easy to prepare for IAS while working.
- Keep a few books handy
It is very important to limit the resources for your preparation as time is precious. You can refer to a few good books for your preparation. What is important is understanding the topics well so read only a few recommended books and avoid getting confused.
- Practice writing
Practising answer writing is very important for getting good marks in mains exam. How you channelize your thoughts and your writing style are very important for the exam.
- Do mock tests regularly
Make it a practice to attempt at least 1 mock test daily. This will help you analyze your weak areas, help you manage time well and boost your confidence.
